This is because ipfwadm is replaced by ipchains in RedHat6.0. Also,
portfw is replaced by ipmasqadm.

Unfortunately, the ipmasqadm creator site is down:

http://juanjox.linuxhq.com/

It has been like this for a fews days.
Anybody know a different source?

The easiest and best way is to use this command...

mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy

Since WIN98/95 uses msdos as it's base, this command will allow you to
read any dos formatted disk. If the file name is longer than 8
characters it will give the usual dos8.3 file name... ex:
thisismyfile.txt will show up as
thisis~1.txt
Just `mv` (rename) the file when you have transferred or copied to your
local harddrive on Linux.

Hope this helps.

Wow, thanks for the kdebug 7 tip. Didn't notice it before in the

I would like to setup multiple IP's on a single netword card in Linux. The
kernel that I am using is 2.0.34. Can any one point me to the documentation
on how to do this. I currently have a firewall set up which uses port
forwarding to forward port 80 to my webserver behind the firewall. I now
want to set up another web server behind the firewall which will be
publically registered under a new IP. For this reason I need my network card
which is on the outside of the firewall to assume two IP address's and
forward port 80 for each IP. I understand that it is possible to have a
network card assume two ip address's but am not sure how. Can anyone
help?????

Use the PCI-NE2000 driver (a.k.a. PCI-NE2K). I have one in one
of my Linux boxes. I also have the docs and specs from Realtek,
which I requested before I found out that this card is a superset
of NE2K clonehood. Probably the only real enhancement in this
card is that Realtek 8029 supports full duplex. I don't think that
the driver does, but my hub sure doesn't, so it doesn't matter for
me, anyway.

Quoting from driver report:

    ne2k-pci.c:v0.99L 2/7/98 D. Becker/P. Gortmaker
http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov\
        /linux/drivers/ne2k-pci.html
    ne2k-pci.c: PCI NE2000 clone 'RealTek RTL-8029' at I/O 0xff80, IRQ
11.
    eth0: PCI NE2000 found at 0xff80, IRQ 11, 00:A0:86:A0:40:C2.

I had set the address and IRQ much earlier, back when this was a Win3.1
box, with a DOS utility supplied by the OEM.

I guess you presumed that you were already pre-welcomed!

Date: Fri, 28 May 1999 17:22:48 GMT

Hello:

Can anyone give me insight into the new kernel 2.2 feature of serial-
line load balancing? Specifically, there is a router which will, when
connected to two modems to an isp, use the second line and its
corresponding bandwidth only when there is a need or call for its being
used, leaving the second line free and available for other uses. Can a
linux box be configured to perform that same function? Where are the
best resources for learning the configurations necessary to use serial-
line load balancing in linux? We will be using RedHat 6.0 and
hopefully a 486.

I'll appreciate any help.

In ipchains, you can specify (or not) at which interface the packet
arrives if you connect with ppp this will be ppp0 instead of eth0...

On bootup (and then after) I'm receiving the following message:
eth0: transmit timed out, tx_status 00 status e601.
eth0: Interrupt posted but not delivered - IRQ blocked by another device?

I've checked my logs as well as /proc/interrupts and the nic is definitely
receiving an interrupt. Module 3c59x is loading correctly too. I've tried
changing the first available IRQ in the BIOS as well as moving the card
around and still get the same message. The PNP OS bios setting is disabled
also. If I don't ifdown the nic, I eventually get a core dump. The only
other card in the system is an ATI Mach64 VT PCI card.

System: DFI VPM586 Dual Pentium (133x2)
               VLSI Chipset

               64M Ram
               3.2 Gig EIDE HD

Anybody have any ideas? The card worked fine under Redhat 5.1 (2.0.34)

You can use domain name instead. This, of course, will rely on your
ISP's willingness to reverse assign each IP a domain name. Or you can
look at the networks you are frequently assigned and open your Linux to
these networks. (Yes tcpd can use networks instead of hosts.)

Whatever solution you come up with, you are bound to open your system to
everyone from your ISP.

I want to know something, too. I didn't come across the same (Linux to
Linux), but I observed some behaviour that I want to correct. First of
all, I'm not using rlogin, but just telnet. And the observation is made
on Slackware 6 (?kernel 2.0.30). Earlier Slackware, and Red Hat doesn't
seem to have this. I suspect this has to do with terminal type.

Now, I can telnet from Linux, from X terminal, any VT-100 emulator. But
I can't with Windows 95 telnet, which uses a VT-100/ANSI emulator. (I
can login if I used the "Connection"->"Remote Host" dialogue, but not
from the command line.) The Win95 telnet always sends ansi as the
terminal type, which on older Slackware and Red Hat I have to change
after login in order to use pine, vi and lynx. (Slackware 6 changes ansi
to vt100 automatically.) I did not realize that this may had to do with
terminal type until I used an HP Term (an X-based terminal emulator) and
got refused. (The same as you observed.) After quite some head
scratching, I started an xterm, the standard terminal emulator, and it
got through. Then I used Win98 HyperTerm with true VT-100 and have no
problem. (But HyperTerm has its own problems and inconveniences.)

This may not have relation with your situation, though, because it does
not make sense that Linux would not recognize another Linux console.

I came across a great site yesterday: http://www.rpmfind.net This site
has every rpm imaginable including ipmasqadm.

Now, does anybody know how to use this to run games from zone.com. I am
trying to get my kid's Jedi Knight game to work. I ran the following
script and the machine just hung up when we tried to join a game. The
article from microsoft says these games connect on port 47264 to the
zone and the zone comes back on 2300 to 2400.

#! /bin/sh
# IP autoforwarding to make Game Zone games work
# See http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q159/0/31.asp
# for description of ports required
ipmasqadm autofw -F
ipmasqadm autofw -A -r udp 2300 2400 -c tcp 47624
ipmasqadm autofw -A -r tcp 2300 2400 -c tcp 47624

Is it neccesary to have a NIS-server in a network. We have a linux machine
which is supposed to be faxserver and a internal newsserver. It's running in
a Windows NT environment... Please Help

NIS-domains are useful for UNIX-machines (UNI). If you have just one
linux machine and the others are WinNT-machines, Id suggest to use the
package samba for linux.

Anyone ever put an OS/2 verion 2 machine on a Linux server? I'm about to.

Any pointers would be appreciated.
