Your isp requests chap authentification, local pppd rejects the request->
connetion is droped.

Possible problem:

The "name xxxxx" option in the commandline(only root) from ppd or in /etc/ppp/options
is missed.

You have no /etc/ppp/chap-sectrets file .

www.samba.org would be useful, smbmount would let you mount SMB-shares on

Greetings all

I havent had the need (or the time (I have a wife)) to read from this
usnet group
for a while. Besides my Linux box (SuSE) has been working great.

In my SuSE system is the YaST program. Which is used to setup various
things in my system. I used it to setup my PPP connection with my ISP
useing diald.

Diald seems to have a little habbit of dialing out when ever it wants
to.
And sometimes for no apperent reason.

Is there a way to adjust diald to only dail out when it looking for a
URL?
It seems to be a little TOO sensitive.

Any comments will be appreciated.

In the file "/etc/pam.d/login", remove or comment out the
line reading "auth required /lib/security/pam_securetty.so".

This will remove the requirement for root to have a secure
tty, effectively making the "/etc/securetty" file irrelevant.

Nope. This is a problem with DNS. Samba is for sharing files/printers
with windows boxen. I have an almost identical setup as you and I know
how to fix it. On the windows machine with sygate right click on
network neighborhood and select properties. Chose your device that
connects to the internet and double click it. Click the DNS table and
write down the dns servers. Put these into your linux box using
linuxconf/control panel/whatever. I must say that I'm 99.9% sure that
this is the solution to your problem but I may be wrong. I have the
same scenario and this is what I did to fix it.

I am looking for program (rpc.lockd) that will allow file locking over a NFS
link.

We wish to store some database files which are not used very often on the
Linux box to free up some space on our main HP9000 server.

Does anyone know if there is a port of rpc.lockd.

Also dies it work with a SMP compiled kernel. We have dual P2 system..
