Read manuals, that's normal work. You can't restart named with older (saved)
cache. When named starts, it always starts with empty cache and loads there
only zones, described in config files (in case of simple cache-only DNS server
they are named.root, named.local, named.rev-local).

Thanks Cliff!
I 'ill try tip `-follow' tonight.
I am really had it with this problem. I tried to solve it myself,
but I had enough already. This must be documented in SuSE itself.
But I cant find any thing near this in the manual, which is not
really brillaint. There is too much in Linux to write in 400 page
book.
I have definitely set `ln -s /dev/ttyS2 /dev/modem'.
But Guess what. There is something in SuSE that keep bloody
resetting the thing `/dev/cua2'. This happens everytime
I reboot my trusty machine. And do you know what. I havent
a blue eye bat in hell chance of an idea where this code is always
being in set.
So I find particularly annoying now. I have n't got time to
mucking around with config. I spent several hours yesterday
trying all I could think of. Going backwards from Windows
to Linux. It's a pain, man. I have said enough.

I got it working just bij reading the linux IP masquerade mini HOWTO
Jus follow the discribed steps, and it will run easy.
And yes, you do need to compile some things into the kernel like IP forwarding ,
firewalling e.d.
The really hard part is to just filter out the unwanted packets from the internet.
But this mini HOWTO discribes that as well.
good luck.

Look at the bounce headers to see where it's coming from.
I can think of at least two likely causes:
(1) The address you are sending to has a backup MX record for some third-
party server that isn't correctly configured to accept mail for it.
That's a problem of the domain you're sending to.
and
> # "Smart" relay host (may be null)
> DSpost.demon.co.uk
> steldin.shadows.org
> arlen.demon.co.uk
(2) post.demon.co.uk is refusing to relay mail sent "from" a non-demon
domain, such as shadows.org. If demon are your hosts for shadows.org
you should complain; otherwise you can either try asking nicely or
stop using the relay host for shadows.org mail.

I have Slackware 3.5 and can easily log to Win-NT with smbmount.
You have to be sure that your kernel supports the smb filesystem.
On my system it's done wiht a module:
#insmod smbfs
Example: Windows NT server with the name Solo and the service (shared
directory) han
#smbmount //Solo/han /mnt
passwd:
This will mount the share on the directory /mnt
You have to be sure that your kernel supports the smb filesystem.

how different are the subnets? how often do they change? if they're
closely related and basically static (like 192.168.1.34 and 192.168.2.45)
you could probably put the addresses in manually and change the subet masks
to broadcast (and listen) on both subnets.... if not..... *shrug*

Any recomendations for other well supported dual channel cards?

Hi Bill,
you wrote:

You do not need this. But you can do it, if you want, but then you
should add:
ipchains -A forward -j masq

ipchains -A forward -j MASQ -s 192.168.200.0/24 -d 0/0
or in second case
ipchains -A masq -j MASQ -s 192.168.200.0/24 -d 0/0
To get your old config you will still have to add:
ipchains -P forward DENY

ipchains -L -M is only a indication if there was really traffic which
should match one of the masquerading rules.

I have got the Win 95 Box to recognise the existence of the LINUX box and I

Has anyone any thought on how to do this ?

Subject: junkbuster able to parse multiple blocklists?
Date: Mon, 07 Jun 1999 14:59:07 GMT
Hi,
I'm running the junkbuster proxy locally, chained to the one at Lucent
(LWPA, see header). I'm on a wintel box, but this seemed the most
appropriate newsgroup to pose the question - though platform really
isn't significant.
When the proxy is active I want to have it compare http requests first
against one of the globally archived blocklists (either a local copy of
it or - is this possible? - the archive site's URL).
Then, I want it to look at a personalized set of additions, exclusions
and/or modifications.
Can the junkbuster resource/ini file handle multiple blocklists in
series? And if so can one be asserted in the form of a remote URL?
Alternatively, if I copy over the archived blocklist locally, can I add
to it an "include" to then point to a second file? Sorry I know squat
about POSIX regexps, so my terminology might not match my intent - hope
it's clear what I want to do.
Many TIA.

So I presume you are running NAT on your Netopia? Only the machines
hooked to the public network (internet ) using your official block of
addresses need the 255.255.255.240 netmask. The addresses behind the NAT
can use 255.255.255.0, or appropriate for what level of network your
running on.

say 201.101.1.5 port 23; such that the telnet is actually going through the
Linux box and hitting the other Unix box. Is there a way to do that with
"ipchains" or do I need something in addition to that?

I'm doing just that, but it was much easier to do it with RH6.0 and
linuxconff's sendmail GUI.

Subject: PPP Latency and Transmitting Characters
Date: 07 Jun 1999 13:21:21 -0500
Hi,
I have two long-standing problems with Linux PPP.
The first is the latency of my ppp connection. When I make a
telnet connection to a nearby host (a campus computer; it's a campus
connection), the characters I type are echoed slowly -- I estimate
about one half second on average. I have played with the mtu option
of pppd, to no avail. I suppose it might be the connection, but other
users here tell me they get better response.
Are there other parameters I should consider tuning?
The second problem is that some control characters are not
transmitted properly. In particular, when I run Emacs via a telnet
session running in an xterm over the PPP connection (i.e., Emacs in an
xterm), sending control-G to the Emacs wedges the session --
everything locks up. (I can free it by banging on control-G and
control-L a few more times.)
I have seen the escape and asyncmap pppd options, and I have tried
tweaking them (to no avail), but I don't know if I am using them
correctly -- I can't find documentation for helping me decide what
characters should be escaped, etc. Can someone give me some guidance
for setting these parameters (e.g., do I need to know which characters
the PPP host expects to escape); or, maybe there is something else I
need to look at?
I am currently experiencing these problems on RedHat Linux 6.0 on
x86, but they have been with me for a couple years, over two previous
installations (RedHat 5.1 and Debian ca 1996). I can supply details
of my configuration upon request.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Yes, I know that. But im looking for a simple solutions with which
there is no hassle with logfiles, calculating, whatever, because
everything is on the providers bill. Except for being a bit
inaccurate (which shouldnt cause a problem in my setup in the long
run) this is the perfect solution for me.
But it seems to be impossibe with linux to archieve this in an easy
way?
