Edit your exports file. Note that the no_all_squash option isn't set by
default.

I found :

/export/home (rw, no_all_squash_map_identity)

works OK.

if you are using Samba 2.x.x you might want to try setting security=domain

look at some of the FAQs at www.samba.org. I fgound them to be most
helpful. Better luck with your tests my friend

: Ok, my question is (I suspect) quite simple. I have a 3-node LAN, but
: the server is buried away in a corner. How can I put an audio CD into
: the server, and play it (i.e., have the music heard) in another room ?

: If I try to export the CD, it needs to be mounted. If I don't mount
: it, then my host can't see it.

Several ideas come to mind:

1) Use the Real Audio server. Assuming its still free, you get
that going on the server, and then use Real Audio clients on
the other machines to listen to the broadcast. I've actually
done this before and it works pretty well.

2) You might also be able to do this with Icecast.
It's been awhile since I looked at Icecast, but it might be
        able to do just MP3s.

3) Someone else will need to fill in the blank here, but there's
also an audio broadcast protocol for X servers.

You'll probably want to poke around either here
http://sound.condorow.net/ (a site devoted to sound applications for
Linux) or perhaps on http://www.freshmeat.net and serach on audio.

: Another question: I plan to put four speakers onto my sound card. How
: can I set cron to play a CD at a particular time?

After you determine which broadcast tool you want to use, you'll then
need look at how to pump the audio stream into the server. When you
know how to do that, you'll then want to look for a command line style
program that can either play CDs or MP3s. From there just create a cron
job to run that program or perhaps a shell program to be run by cron.

Doing a search on "linux" from http://www.networking.ibm.com/support/ yields
a link to a Tech Tip called "Do Linux device drivers exist for IBM
Token-Ring adapters?". That's about the existent of Linux info. that exists
on our home page right now.

Speaking of which, that document needs to be updated soon for inclusion of
the PCI Family of Token-Ring adapters. :)

Someone already mentioned the keyboard shortcut to quit X
(Ctrl-Alt-Bkspace), so I'll see if I can help you get your mouse
working. I had this problem my first time trying to install RedHat
5.1. You should check to see if the connector your mouse uses to plug
into your computer is circular (ps/2) or somewhat rectangular
(serial). If it's the first, then you should run either
"xconfigurator", "FX86Config", or "SetupXF86" and when it asks you for
the device path, give "/dev/psaux" without the quotation marks. If
it's the second, then "/dev/mouse" should work, although I can't say
for certain as I've never tried to setup a serial mouse in linux. HTH.

The protocols that need a module is because they need some sort of
translation in application level, so Sygate has to do it (possibly in an
invisible way). One suggestion is to configure masquerade in an /etc/rc.d
file so the configuration is done automaticaly at the boot (SuSE does it
but you can do the script yourself) and you don't need to worry about
modules and that.

About the performance the kernels 2.2.x are much better than 2.0.x.

Gene Heskett sends Greetings to Tom Bascom;

'scuse me for butt'in in here, but the real process of what you have
thats right (and potentially still wrong) starts by going thru all the
configurations as they exist now, and writing it down in a notebook.

Then read all the 'man's on each piece to refresh yourself as to just
what it is that each of these variables does.

Once you've done that, then its going to be simple to re-establish a
working system again, and the fact that you have hard copy in front of
you for all variables can be very enlightening if something comes up
with one of the accounts that the user (or you) would like to fix.

1. What are your routing tables? Show us netstat -r output, and what
you think the addresses of all the interfaces should be.

2. Probably trying to resolve the name of 192.x.x.x and your name
server is set to forward requests to your provider, which isn't

Define 'Groupware' ... diaries, email, tasks, workflow, filesharing,

I wish. Most of the components are there already (email, sharing, ldap,
databases etc) all accessible via clients or browsers etc. What's really
missing at the moment is shared calendar servers like exchange or
groupwise offer, linked implicitly to email.

I was waiting to see what the netscape calendar server looked like on
