Don't choke on your giggle. Win-whatever gets installed by the system
builders, and they have learned the hard way to pick and match hardware
combinations that work for them. Quite a few of the smaller system
builders are quite out of their league when something goes wrong. A
friend of mine recently tried to install a new (internal) modem. He has
been to 4 local dealers since, hoping they would get his system running
again. Last time I talked to him he was still hoping.

Hello,

IRQ=3 may be conflicting with serial port 2. Do you have serial 2 in your
machine.

Try changing irq to 5 or 10.

Good luck!

Subject: Linux as gateway between Microsoft and Unix
Date: Fri, 11 Jun 1999 00:18:54 GMT

Hi,

I wish to access files on a Windows disk from various Unix computers (=20
Unixware, SCO, Solaris ) transparently.

As smbclient is not fully transparent, I've install a Linux box (=20
slackware 3.6 ). I've use smbmount and mount share from Windows NT.

Now, I wish to re-dsitribute these files with NFS. I've do=20
it but we have a strange probleme :
The linux box can access any files / folder on the Windows share, but=20
the NFS re-share only the first level in the directory structure.

Ex : NT share a folder as Data. This share include a subfolder,=20
public, itself containing files.
I can mount Data from Linux in a directory ( net ) and access files in=20
public subfolder. When a Unix box mount the directory ( net ) with=20
NFS, he will see the subfolder public, can change in this directory=20
but can not do LS and PWD say he can not find in wich directory we=20
are.

All security on the NTFS partition are every one full control and=20
itself, Linux can access them. So the problem is surely not on Windows N=
T.

If anyone can help me, please send me your tips at=20

RH6 comes with the 2.2.5 kernel. I am having the EXACT same problem with
RH6 and my Ricochet modem. I am hoping someone can give me some pointers on
how to correct this problem.

I'm having a similar problem. packets leave and enter the linux box but it
pays no attention to them. (see my other post for more deatils)

route and ifconfig look just like the examples in all the documentation

let me know if and how you solve this. I'l do the same

Can someone recommend a good hub for an isp with 300 - 2000 users?
I'll be using fast ethernet NICs 10/100, and I want to buy a brand
compatible with linux with good performance of course. Also, would a
switch be preferable over a fast ethernet hub. And I'd like to know
if most of the fast ethernet hubs out now avoide packet collision.
Thanks for any information,

Hi Sam,

Be sure you can't get a connection. At first, I thought I couldn't get a
connection, either, but after several failures, I find I always connect. (RH6)
I don't have any explanation for the failures, which always hang at expect ATZ
