Hello Everybody!

Can anyone tell me, how do I organize
restricted newsgroups access from UUCP feeds
( Well... Fido Feeds. Smth like a feed
p2.f938.n5030.z2 shouldn't have a right to post
to a newsgroup fido7.smth...)
Since I don't know from which user does posting
done ( It's not NNTP, isn't it?), I can't use
nnrp.access

Does the client have a valid DNS set?
(or if this is the local machine name) does it have a hostname set in DNS
properties?

If I remember well the answer is yes. Try to see in the kernel sources. I'm not
sure but it'd be qonos or something like this.

That's one of the changes in the 2.2.* kernels. Use IP chains instead.

I habe some trouble with sendmail (8.8.x) from SuSE 6.0 and the
M4-Scripts.

To prevent Spamming I habe configured:

        use-names     -> /etc/mail/LocalNames

there the local Domains (who ist allowed do relay) registered:

        localhost
        abc.de
        def.com

and
        use-relayto     -> /etc/mail/RelayTo

and also

        chk-rcpt4

is activated in "SuSEconfig.sendmail".

The machine DOES not relay ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all... I have a network with a RH Linux 6.0 server, and is running samba
with several shares setup. The problem that I'm having is that some of the
users on the same subnet can not see the shares or the server at all.

Several of the newer computers that I have setup all can see it just fine..
Anyone know if maybe the drivers of the individual computer might be a
problem. Most of the NIC's are 3Com and most are running Win95 osr2. Have the
NIC drivers changed recently????

Thanks in advance...

On the linux machine...
1) Configure it as a router (rather than as a host)
2) Compile in the NAT/Firewall support
3) Enable the Dial-on-demand support
4) Install your firewall and NAT rules
5) Enjoy. You're linux box will automatically connect to the internet
when any machine needs the connection, *and* it will provide NAT
translation, so you don't have to lease 'real' IP addresses for each
machine, *and* it'll keep attackers out, *and* it won't cost you a
cent.

that is because satan returns .pl pages which should rather be html pages.
you only need to tell netscape to display .pl pages as html pages somewhere

Sorry, missed that last comment.

Well, not only can I send messages, URLs and files to outside users (I
don't have voice messaging), I can even do that to ANOTHER user behind my
own server (ie. on this LAN). I have even used the chat function to include
two local LAN users and 3 "outsiders".

Occasionally, when I try to message another outside user who is ALSO behind
a firewall, I get the "Send through server" message. But that's about it.
So what gives?

Are you *sure* you want the Linux box to go through the Win98 box to the
internet?
Of the two, Linux is better suited as the internet host, having native
support for
NAT, firewalling, and *all* the network tools necessary. Besides, you'll
have to reboot
the Win98 system far oftener than the Linux system, and is inherently
less secure than
Linux... ;-)

Currently PCI Cards can *share* the same IRQ, using masks.
My RH 5.2 use Ethernet and Video with the same IRQ 12.

I am trying to switch from Windows 95 to Linux, and having some problems
getting it to authenticate with my ISP (Earthlink). Linux wants to
reject PAP requests for some reason. The first time I tried this, it
worked fine, and I was able to log in and run an FTP session, but
haven't been able to get authenticated since. My /etc/ppp/pap-secrets
file is OK as far as I can tell, and set to root/root 600.
What else can cause this? A sample run is below:

There is no problem with modem and login script, but after

Does anybody know which additional options should be passed to pppd ?

Just to let those of you who are curious know, I solved the problem
described below.
/etc/smb.conf requires an IP address in the "interfaces" field, and then the
machine is visible in the Network Neighborhood. I'm given a dynamic IP at
startup, so I can't hard-code this in there. I now launch a small script
that gets my IP address and updates that file whenever the smb service is
started (/sbin/init.d/smb in SuSE). If someone wants a copy of the script,
just send me a mail.

well i'm not sure how suse does this, although i'm using it myself, but i wrote my
own skripts for nis. it looks like you didn't configure your ypbind correctly.
maybe it helps if you create a file /etc/yp.conf and add a line like

at least this works for ypbind-mt from http://www.suse.de/~kukuk/linux/nis.html

are you running with the Software Raid stuff that came with RedHat 6.0? I
think that the stuff with RedHat 6.0 was not all there. You've go to
go to the kernel.org site and get the latest software raid tools from
there before it will work. I had to get the latest software raid tools
set up before RedHat 6.0 would recognize my Raid-0 and Raid-1 arrays.

so ping 127.0.0.1
ping localhost
ping (your machine name here)
they all work?

looks ok to me as well-
maybe hardware cable etc?

have you tried tcpdump to monitor your ip-traffic, maybe find out what
is working or not - can you see packets from other machines?
