Subject: UDP receive buffer size > 64 K ?
Date: Fri, 18 Jun 1999 08:23:24 GMT

Hi,

There seems to be a limit on the size of the UDP receive buffer under
Linux (RH 5.2, stock kernel 2.0.36). The default is 64 K, and I'm
unable to set it to a higher value. (But I can reduce the value...)

Is there a way to get a 256 KB UDP receive buffer, by applying a patch,
of maybe upgrading to kernel 2.2?

Thanks

I figure out how to force the IRQ: through BIOS settings, but the main
problem still remains:

If I'm trying to access that computer from the network the connectivity is
gone after 10 seconds...but if I'm transfering something from that
computer everything is OK.
In the ifconfig output there are 2 values that are changing:

"carrier": from 0 to 1
and "errors": from 0 to 1
when carrier and erros are 0 everiyhing is OK.

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:80:5F:D4:6F:84
          inet addr:192.168.0.3 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

Any ideea?

Hello,
I'm trying to install a network card Compaq NETFLEX 3/P(tlan.o module) and
here is what I got:

1.ifconfig output:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:80:5F:D4:6F:84
          inet addr:192.168.0.3 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
          Interrupt:17 Base address:0xf4f0

2. console output:

Jun 14 19:48:45 linux1 kernel: TLAN driver, v1.0, (C) 1997-8 Caldera, Inc.
Jun 14 19:48:45 linux1 kernel: TLAN: eth0 irq=17 io=f4f0, Compaq
NetFlex-3/P, Rev. 16
Jun 14 19:49:02 linux1 kernel: TLAN: eth0: Link forced.

2. message when I'm trying to use "insmod tlan irq=5 io=0xf4f0
speed=10Mbs"

/lib/modules/2.2.9/net/tlan.o: invalid parameter parm_irq
/lib/modules/2.2.9/net/tlan.o: invalid parameter parm_io
/lib/modules/2.2.9/net/tlan.o: invalid parameter parm_speed

As you can see the IRQ detected is 17.....!!!! I know(with a DOS program)
that the card is on 5 ...

I did tried kernel 2.2.6,7,8,9 with Caldera 2.2,SUSE 6.1 and Redhat 6.1.
I tried to put as a parameter in conf.modules:
 "alias eth0 tlan
options tlan io=0xf4f0 irq=5"
and I got the same message: "invalid parameter parm_irq" etc...

What's strange is that after I load the module..with that strange IRQ...I
have conectivity for about 2-3 min...and then nothing...it's really weird.
I've changed 3 cards, I've changed the slot on the mainboard,I've enable
and
disable PNP in BIOS..I did everything!!!

So how can I force to use that IRQ(5)? Or am I doing something wrong here?

Suggestion:
Try using RedHat 5.2 or above.
The printtool provided with the package does everything for you.
If you cannot change to Redhat, you still can get good ideas from the Redhat
print filters

Currently, a VMScluster is specified to run with at most 96 nodes.
This limit is arbitrary, as DEC^WCompaq just didn't bother to test more.
I've heard of clusters with up to 110 nodes.

You could get linux versions of ADABAS D, which is a fully
featured, client/server or even distributed relational database system
(in case someone doesn't know) as free trials without C/S functionality
or as licensed full product with ODBC support for Win & Linux clients
since around spring '97, AFAIK (at least in Germany, maybe they lack
good PR in US). So my guess is, ADABAS D was the first commercial
relational DB !
Please note that I don't want to start a flame war about DBs,
nor do I do PR for any company; my intentions was just to
put things right.

I would like to be able to carry 2 virtual networks on one physical
network - specifically:
One set of machines would be addressed as 192.168.32.xx and the other
with 10.1.1.xx (examples), both with a netmask of 255.255.255.0. My
understanding is the 2 logical networks would co-exist on one physical
net without seeing each other. I could then even have a machine with 2
NICs that could access both and act as a firewall/router.
Am I crazy?
Would that work?
Since my ISP seems to drop about 92% of all newsgroup messages, please
direct any answers to question 2 (would it work) to my E-Mail as well.

Thank you - Andrew Williams

Subject: archiving incoming/outgoing emails - procmail recipe needed
Date: Fri, 18 Jun 1999 06:46:17 GMT

Hi all,

We are running NT server and FTGate smtp/pop server for email purposes.
We would like to shift to linux. I am suppose to setup a linux box
that will server as a complete email server. I have successfully setup
an offline email system that sends/receives mails over a dialup PPP
connection.

However, there was one problem. FTGate email server that runs on NT
server gives an option to save a copy of all incoming and outgoing
mails. Now, my compnay wants
to setup this option. I hope I can accomplish this with a simple
procmail recipe.

But I haven't used procmail. Can anyone of you give me a procmail
recipe that saves all incoming and outgoing mails?

Also, is it possible to send a 'message sent confirmation' message as
soon as the mail has been pushed out to the net? This facility is also
there in FTGate email system. If you would like to view/try FTGate for
comparitive purposes, go to http://www.floosietek.com or ftgate.com

waiting....

I thought I had tried that, but I guess not. I set PerlSendHeader Off and
it works now. Thanks!

I have a similar problem (maybe the same). I had sendmail/RH4.2 working
fine, but recently installed RH6.0 and sendmail now creates problems. I
connect to the internet via a dialup, but have registered a domain name
(bogle.co.nz). sendmail runs on the machine called "wem1", and my email
goes out with "Mail from: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. Some mail servers
bounce it back, saying "Server domain must exist", because although
bogle.co.nz is known, wem1.bogle.co.nz is not. I have tried setting
everything I know about (and a few more besides) in sendmail.cf to say
that my mail is coming from @bogle.co.nz, but the "Mail from:" field
resolutely insists on @wem1.bogle.co.nz. What should I do? Is it a
matter of recompiling sendmail, or is there another way around this?

This is the card I'm using. But I'm running RH 5.2, it will probably work
for RH 6.0 too. On the driver disk should be a program called
rset8019.exe, run this program to turn off plug and play and set the o/i
and irq manually. If you don't have the driver disk you can download the
program from realtek's web site. You may have to turn off plug and play in
the CMOS ( or is it BIOS? ) to get it to work correctly.

First, you can't have more than one driver active on the parallel port
at any give time. If you have compile the lp driver into the kernel, you
cannot use the zip. Compile both drivers as modules and use kerneld to
load the appropriate drive on demand.

Second, there are different versions of zip drives around. The older
zip 100 use the ppa driver, but for the newer zip 100 and zip 250 you
need the imm driver. Take at look at http://www.torque.net/~campbell/

Realtek is supposed to be Ne2000 compatible.
I guess if you use the ne driver (for ISA card) or the ne2k-pci (for pci
card) it will work.

It worked for me with a realtek 8029

What happened to question marks? ;)

I'm running an ISA RTL8019 in a Redhat 5.1 box. I had to download the
driver install disk from the Realtek web site, and turn off the plug and
play and set the IO addresses and the IRQ manually. Once my config files
agreed with this, ne.c found the card find and runs it as an NE2000
compatible.

I'm not sure that this will help: I did that on my system (SuSE 6.0) prior
to using kppp, to have a ppp script working. When using kppp, the message
"the ppp deamon died unexpectedly"
also pops up, though the script works fine for any user.
SUID and GUID are also set on kppp.
It seems that there are a lot of messages reporting this problem in the news

to have kppp work when non root (may be because I don't speak german or

Has anyone tried or have experiences with QuickTime 4 streams (audio/video)
through a linux router/firewall using ipfwadm (ip_masq)?

We use such a router and the clients (w95/w98/Mac's) can't see
Quicktime-streams

Connection failed

There is some information on the QuickTime-site

and I have made some modifications to my ipfwadm-configuration but it
doesn't help.

I think I have to use the RTP/RTSP protocol (which isn't installed now).
Any suggestions, tips?
