This is because you compiled your kernel with the Win95 bug workaround (that
option right after the question about enabling smbfs). You cannot use this
with Windows NT or it will give corrupt dates (as you noticed). Event if
you use smbmount with Win95 you should disable the Win95 bug workaround.
The newest smbmount allows you to apply the workaround on a mount-point by
moint-point basis.

It isn't by chance a "winmodem" is it? There are very few PCI modems that
are not winmodems. Many ISA modems are not winmodems, some are though. If
it is a winmodem, then you're out of luck -- look it up if you don't believe
me. Search www.dejanews.com keywords: Linux AND winmodem.

In a previous post, someone said they wanted to be able to call in on a
voice line, enter a numeric password (touch-tone), and hang up. The server
would then dial back if the correct password had been entered.

To do this you'll need a modem with a DTMF decoder. Unless I'm mistaken
(and I could be) a voice modem will do this. You also need some kind of
software that sits on the modem waiting for a call (not mgetty unless I'm
mistaken again). This hypothetical software would answer the phone after so
many rings and wait for the numeric password somehow. After verifying the
password, it would have to release the modem and exec diald, pppd, or
something to allow/start a ppp connection.

You should search for topics mentioning voice modem applications for Linux.
You may get some nibbles that way. And if you are successful, I would be
mildly curious to know what worked.

Good Luck and Long Live the Penguin!

Seems your CGI does not return 'Content-type: text/html' the first time
called. While Netscape does rely on the content-type, IE might check the
content of any text file to be a HTML page and does display it as HTML
if so.

In 2.3.6 this option is only available if CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL is

Help: domain propagation

Hello

I have got a domain but after several days it does not work yet.
The domain is not seen by any browser.
I e-mailed many times both to my provider (where my DNS and my IP are)
and to the nic office, and they tell me that all is ok and I need
only to wait the "domain propagation".
Does it really take so long?

But I worry also for another reason: my provider gave me an IP address
for my virtual domain, but it is not recognized if I browse:
http://216.121.32.8 (that is my IP)

Why?! It should be seen by any browser in the world,
as it is independent from the DNS!
How can be there a "propagation" on it?

In any case, about the DNS "propagation", I am afraid that there may
be some mistakes, as too many days have passed.

So here are more questions.
I registered the two nameservers (DNS)
for my domain with LOWER CASE characters, that is ns.providername.com
while I see that usually UPPER CASE characters are needed,
that is NS.PROVIDERNAME.COM
May it make a difference? Is there a case sensitivity?!
However, is really the nameserver name important?
I guess that the number 209.182... is important,
and I do not know if the nameserver ns.providername.com
is really important for the routing to work.

Thanks!

Diego

I was given a machine that seems to have a Novell ne2000 isa pnp card
inside, but I don't have any of the software that came with the card. It
seems that I have to turn off pnp for this card to be recognized by
linux. I have changed the jumper settings to a specific irq on the card
itself but that does not seem to work, windows still picks it up as pnp.
Is there any utility for dos that I can download that will let me turn
off pnp for this card and assign it an irq? Is there any other way to do
it? Thanks,

I'm trying to mount a directory called /mnt/red, which is located under

nettest. When I try to mount this directory I get the message: "mount:

I'm root on both machines. Do I need to specify on the Slackware machine

Thanks.

Check it out !

    18 sites to choose from:

Perl development done exclusively on Red Hat Linux ! Now
a commerce site in full operation !

We have found linux to be an excellent choice when we first
started this project - both cost-wise and stability wise. We
were able to network a few old 386 and 486 boxes into a
development LAN, which completely satisfied our needs.

Thank you LINUX !

Does the defumask setting in ftpaccess have any affect on wu-ftpd? It

is by passing it the -u[umask] parameter from the inetd.conf file.

Anyone else have this problem?

If you use bridging no one from the outside is able to get in, so it
also functions as an firewall.
And yes if u use bridging the web/telnet interface doesn't work, bbut
who need it anyway? you got and managnent cable ain't you?

You also might want to check out Direct Cable Connection in the Windows
network utilities. I'm taking a A+ class and last night rigtht after I logged
off I was reading the book it says to use Direct Cable Connection to connect
Windows to another computer with a serial or null-modem parallel cable.

But still I would use the com program in MS Works if you happen to have it.
I've used it before and it worked pretty good.

Hello,

In a few weeks, I'm going to run my own webserver. It will have a lot of
virtual hosts, all assigned to the box by a CNAME in the DNS records. I
also would like to keep stats of what traffic goes to what hosts. At this
moment I use Accesswatch2 on another server to go through the apache log
of the virtual hosts to analyse the accesses.

But now someone told me told I better gave each virtual hosts a dedicated
IP adres because you can do better logging that way.

I've already found out how to assign all the different IP addresses to my
eth0 (+ routing), but how about the logging ? What program can I use to
log the traffic on all the different eth0:x devices ?

Some tips from more expirienced users are also very welcome !

Thanks,
