Ok this is happening on two different machines, both running RedHat 5.1
2.2.5 kernel. Both have 3c509b ethernet cards set for eth0. And both
computers are on 2 completely different networks, though 1 was having
same problems on my network before i moved it to another network.
They're both 333mhz AMD K62 machines with 128 megs ram. (if that helps).
Here is essentially what the problem is:
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Bcast:127.255.255.255 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:3924 Metric:1
RX packets:730 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
TX packets:0 errors:49511 dropped:730 overruns:0
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:04:6C:17:03
inet addr:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Bcast:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Mask:255.255.255.248
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:9106752 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
TX packets:0 errors:920481313 dropped:8492047 overruns:0
Interrupt:10 Base address:0x300
This is off the computer that was moved to an ISP's (CoLocation Server)
network..... The ip, bcast, subnet were all changed also. It has to be
either with my ethernet card, or something in the configuration/OS that
is causing this....but i am stumped. I dont' think it could be my
ethernet cards really, or why would i be receiving errors on my local
loopback? Well i hope 1 of you linux gurus can help a guy out :)
Can reach me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] if needed.
Thanks much,
Scott.

I'm trying to setup the Frontpage 2000 extentions for a box that has the
user home directories
on an NFS server. Whenever I try to create a ~user subweb I get an error:
/usr/local/frontpage/currentversion/bin/fpsrvadm.exe \
-o install \
-port 80 \
-t apache-fp \
-web "~jht2" \
-username jht2 \
-password abcdef \
-xUser jht2 \
-xGroup jht2 \
-m ""
Creating web http:///~jht2
Cannot open file "/user/67/jht2/public_html/_vti_pvt/service.lck" for
writing.
User box is Redhat 6.0, and NFS is a Network Appliance Box.
I traced it and found it failing in fpsrvadm.exe:
fcntl(9, F_SETLKW, {type=F_WRLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=0, len=0}) = -1
ENOLCK
(No locks available)
Has anyone gotten Frontpage extentions to work when the user subwebs are on
NFS?
Thanks.

I have a Debian 2.1 system running as a file server with samba 1.9.18.
It is a P333 with 64Mb RAM and "top" was reporting that 62Mb of memory was
being
used. I thought I'd put some more RAM in to increase performance - up to
128Mb.
Now "top" reports 126Mb is being used and 2Mb Free.
Any ideas what might be going on ?
Samba really slows down with a few people on or when a lot of data is being
processed on the
database residing on the linux box.
Do you think it could be related to the memory issue ??

It surely _not_ fetchmail config problem, but _sendmail_...
(ar anything else you use for delivering mail...)
Maybe you forget to add 'localhost' somewhere in the config files...
(sorry, I can't give details, I'm not an expert on this topic...)
(but you should examine your 'sendmail' config...)

A couple of routes would probably help
The output from route -n may help you also understand what is going on
Your listing
netstat -nr
does not contain any info on where to send packets except for the class c
of 206.109.47.0 if you ping an address in the range of 206.109.47.1-254
providing that it is used, you will get a reply.
pinging a 10.55.0.0 address as long as it falls within the range as
specified by your netmask will work also.
If you try and ping or traceroute to any address other than these it will
fail.

Ben,
If I understand what you're trying to do, all the Linux box would be is
a firewall WITHOUT nat.
Should be a piece of cake. I know ipfwadm can do the filtering you
want.
But I think you only need one Linux box (with two NICs).

Since you have speed optimisation in there as well, the C++ compiler
could be adding extra code for speed (it uses a slightly different
frontend). This is *not* an equal test of code size. You need to specify
-fno-* options to remove *all* speed optimisations, and use -f* to
specify equal size optimisations if you want to test code size fairly
for the current egcs implementation.

When telneting from Red Hat 5.2 Linux into a Windows machine the
keystrokes are misinterpreted and show up as garbage on the remote
machine.
e.g typing "dir" gives "ddiirr^M" and other crap.
But I didnt ask for local echo, and the remote Windows machine reads my
input as ddiirr^M anyway (so giving bad command error). Telneting using
another Windows PC shows no problem.
Any pointers to sloving this?

You could run
ipx_configure --auto_primary=on
ipx_configure --auto_interface=on
And check after a couple of minutes what it auto-configures to. Then
run slist and see if the Novell server responds.
Once you know the values you can use these instead of auto configure.

The change is in security, I guess. You're right, changing the

after you have re-read man ftpaccess
You may want to do one or more of the following.
1. Set up the anonymous directories with the required info, the person
would only need to log in as either anonymous or ftp
2. Create an account on your linux box for them, and put their group into
the guestgroup line in the /etc/ftpaccess file and copy a staticilly
linked version of "ls" to their directory. This will allow them only
access to their directory tree under ~user Read man 5 hosts_access to set
up your policies for other services for this user (telnet pop3 etc) and
set up /etc/hosts.deny /etc/hosts.allow accordingly.

Subject: kerneld network problems...

Hey guys, I'm having trouble get the kerneld applet in fvwm95 in RH 5.1
to accept the NIC module I'm giving to it. It's a 3Com 3c509 card. After
putting in the
settings I hit the restart kerneld button, but the kernel daemon doesn't
restart - when I reenter the kerneld window, the module is not listed.
Does anyone know what
the problem might be?
Thanks.
Mike
