Its a catch-22 situation...

Redhat had gotten some flak in many of the security lists/groups because it used
to install imap automatically. for a while there, imap had the worst (next to
sendmail 8.6) security holes in it....

go to /usr/doc/samba.....
there are sevaral .reg files for 95/98 and NT

The problem is, that linux accept the password unencrypt and nt is sending
the password encrypted....

So you have to tel windows that het sends the password in Plain text and
that is what te .reg file do for you

Is the problem on the client side? What os are your client machines running
and is the setup correct on those?

I know to stop my win98 box from dialing on every request I had change the
DNS to only the PPP server, the HOWTO said I had to have the ISP DNS in
there too.

Also I remember reading about a "forward first" setting in named.conf file.

There is a problem with this, since the protocols exchange use are not open
source. An imap server in conection with an ldap server would be a good
start. Outlok Express or Netscape Messanger can access it.

I think MS knows very well why the LDAP and IMAP Support in plain Outlook is
delayed for so long (do Outlook 2000 havbe it?)

I have read your post and found that it was the exact same problem that
my RH 6.0 box is having. I am trying to do active FTP through the box
and either I am not understanding your command line or I am not getting
it. Could you post an exact ( no variables ) of that command line and
explain any issues you might have with DHCP in relation to this ipchains
setup.

If you can tell me how you got win98 to work with samba, I'll be glad to help
you with the printer problem.

Add to smb.conf

[printers]
        comment = All Printers
        path = /var/spool/samba
        guest ok = Yes
        print ok = Yes
        browseable = No

Then use "testprns".

There is also a diald howto or mini-howto. It is several years old

Hi, Maybe one of you kind souls can point a newbie in the right
direction. I've been reading, but unless I've missed something (not
unlikely), I can't find anyting on what I want to do.

I'm running Apache on a Linux server, which I've tested and seems to
run OK. A winNT box on the network contains tutorial programs and
files needed by remote users. I would like the remote users to use
the internet to connect to the linux server which would then pass them
onto the NT box to run their tutorial programs from the comfort and
privacy of their own bedroom offices, just like me.

Problem is I don't even know what such a setup is called or where to
look for help. Some direction would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Erm. Probably /home.

Shut down the entire system?
Open up an xterm, su to root, and run "sync;shutdown -h now".

Does anyone know what I should add to Apache config files to make
directories (if no index file exists) "browsable" by default... as
opposed to getting the 501 Forbidden error message?

TIA

But if they don't, it's the media keyword, as mentioned in 'man ifconfig'.

If you aren't sure how to address your media type, take a look in the source of
the network card driver to see if it supports the media type keyword under
ifconfig.

I beat on this for days before comming across the solution. Somewhere in
your login script you should do an echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_dynaddr
The problem I had was that the local address for eth0 was also being
assigned to ppp0 _if_ the name of the local machine would resolve. Finding
this kernel flag seemed to help and now it works. I also use the
ipcp-accept-local and ipcp-accept-remote flags on pppd.

That is how I got it to work on RH6.0. Hope that helps you.
