Subject: Linux/Novell(with NDS) connectivity
Date: Mon, 12 Jul 1999 23:14:15 GMT

Hi,
Anyone with Novell NetWare 4.1x experience out there ?

Is it possible to setup a Linux server (with mars_nwe) in an existing
NetWare 4.1x network with all servers using NDS (except the
Linux/mars_nwe server)?

Are were other solutions of integrating a Linux server into a NetWare
net (which uses NDS)? (All clients are Win9x or Linux and TCP/IP is used
parallel to IPX).
Renowned c`t was writing the following (in 20/98 p.214 " Die Emulation
von NetWare-Servern unter Linux"):
...The only alternative right now is NetWare/IP which tunnels IPX
through TCP/IP. However currently only Windows clients are available...

How well does ncpfs (version 2.2.0.16 ) perform when NDS is used ?

Any other input (e.g. personal experiences, reading tips...) concerning
Linux/Novell is highly appreciated too.

sebastian

Hi,

I am trying to dial in to a ISP from home. In testing, I used minicom
to make the connection. That work correctly. But when I started
pppd -v -detach /dev/modem 3400 &

it died.
I
I check the /var/log/messages
which said pppd received a ^F and it was not able to determine
the ip number. What should I do?

ThanksforThoseResponding.

Subject: SMTP filter???
Date: Tue, 13 Jul 1999 00:14:21 GMT

Howdy Everybody!

At my company, there is no business purpose for sending/receiving
*.avi, *.mov, *.etc, etc. etc. Can I filter or bounce emails with
these attachments using sendmail.cf ??? Ideally I want to stop these
emails at the email server rather than trying to establish filters on
everybodys PC (which they would change anyway).

So far, I have limited the size of emails using the nice suggestion
from Steve Cowles - that works great. Now I just want to tighten the
screws just a little bit more...{evil grin}.

Thanks again,
Kristy

I noticed what your domainname and hostname were...... Domaninnames must be
alphanumeric and have at least one alpha character; I think the same applies
to hostnames. Also I think that you must have a local DNS server to do what
you want to, or at the very least change the hosts mapping file.
Good Luck,

Ok, I checked my config file. There is no such entry as CONFIG_IP_FIREWALL_CHAINS,
which explains part of your problem!

I hate to tell ya but......
Winmodems are software modems and therefore DO NOT WORK WITH LINUX.
There may be solution someday, but I doubt it. Get a regular Hayes
compatible hardware modem.

Subject: Dail-On-Demand IP Router with Two WAN Ports - Any Ideas???
Date: Mon, 12 Jul 1999 19:18:46 -0400

I have been using the MPS mini dial-up router from:
http://mpsdr.unx.nu/ and I must say that it has served me well
and reliably for many months. I had two of them, one for a V.90
modem to my ISP and another to my employer's RAS through an
ISDN modem. One of the old boxes went belly up and I got to
thinking there should be a way to combine both into one router box,
but the details of this are over my head.

What I would like to do is have my dial-on-demand router dial out
to my ISP for everything except my employer's RAS which hosts
a class B range of internet addresses. My employer's RAS acts
exactly the same as my ISP's RAS.

My gateway address on my network is 192.168.x.x the class B
network is B.B.x.x . Any traffic appearing at 192.168.x.x that is
trying to get to B.B.x.x should cause the router to dial my RAS
at work via the ISDN modem otherwise it should diap my ISP's
RAS via the V.90 modem.

Can this be done easily? I have looked into the Linux Router
Project's floppy baser router the configuration of which is beyond
me at this point can anyone help me or at least point me in the
right direction?

Thanks,
Tom

It looks like the Tru64 side thinks that Linux supports NFS V3. It
should, of course, but doesn't yet. (Beta code available.)

You can force Tru64 to use NFS V2 via "mount -o nfsv2 ...".

This may not be your problem, but it sure was mine. I had an internal
USR sportster and after a few dials and disconnects it would go on
strike. The cure I discovered is to shut the power off and bring back
up. Apparently some of the chips on the modem simply get 'full' and
stop accepting input. Really neat, huh? A microsoft modem <G>

hope thats not your problem, but if it is then you have company.
