In your zone file for domain you will need to create another CNAME record
for www, ftp or mail:
www CNAME webdsp.net.
ftp CNAME webdsp.net.
mail CNAME webdsp.net.
Then after you restart your named daemon (try ndc restart), you should be
able to access those services.
Good luck!

You have two choices:
1) buy "hub" cards, which are real hubs and only use an ISA slot for
power - five ports in one isa slot; nothing to do with Linux
2) install "ethernet" cards and use bridging to make your Linux box into
a switch (not a hub)
read the bridge + firewall howto for information about bridging

Subject: DNS Aliasing
Date: Tue, 20 Jul 1999 19:45:47 GMT
Can anyone here give me a hand? I'm sure this is pretty easy, but I
haven't seemed to have stumbled upon the correct config yet.
In short, I want AND address to come back as my web server IP (this is
for an auto-registration system). I have successfully set up my DNS
server (Red Hat 6.0) from scratch (blew up old server and started anew)
and it works when I type in my server address or IP, but nothing else
works yet. I do not want there to be any access to the outside (there
isn't now -- you just get a DNS error if you type in anything but the
website address). So anyone have a hint or answer how I should set up
my .hosts file to alias everything to one site?
Thank in advance for any help. :)
Sincerely,
Jeremy Pollack

Date: Tue, 20 Jul 1999 14:39:28 -0600
Hi,
I built a system with redhat 6.
During the setup, I was prompted for the root password and I entered and
confirmed the same password that's on my other 5 systems.
Now, I can't login. I have tried all combinations of the root passwords
we use in the lab and none of them work.
Do I have to rebuild this system?
Thanks

Hey, I'm pretty new to Linux.
I don't get my network adaptor installed. My provider (Cable!) uses a
non-static IP number. My adaptor is a 3Com Etherlink III Isa (3C509b-TPO) in
PnP-mode.
Who can help me?

Everything you described is working fine except I can't get the chroot
to work properly. This is what I have for an entry in my passwd
newuser1:x:105:105:Upload Account:/home/upload/./:/bin/false
With this entry, when the user newuser1 logs in to the system their
initial directory is /home/upload, which is perfect, but the user can
'cd ..' up to /home or just /, so for some reason it is not limiting
their directory access......I am not sure why. I consulted the man
page, in RH 6.0 the ftpaccess page describes the same as you had said,
the first dir before the dot in the passwd file is what is chroot to and
the second dir after the . is what is chdir to relative to the first
chroot.
Any idea on what I am doing wrong?
Thanks!

I'll try and lend a hand here. For DNS, I assume you are using BIND, and
the best place to go for that is www.isc.org. Lots of resources there
for setting up and maintaining.
Samba isn't tough, just takes a little managing. man smb.conf and then
hack away at the /etc/smb.conf file. There are various ways to setup
what you want, but without knowing how you want it setup or the
particular's, I can't offer much more than there are a lot of good sites
out there and the man pages are pretty good. Also, KDE offers a program
called KSamba which manages smb.conf files. Seems a little buggy, but
could be worth a try. Also, remember that the program testparam will
parse the smb.conf file and show you any errors that you might have.
Kinda like lint. If you wanna be a PDC, use Samba (I am assuming you
mean Primary Domain Controller). Solves two of your issues. If you are
migrating away from NT servers alltogether, then this is the way to go.
If not, you may consider simply sticking with NT for PDC services. Samba
shouldn't mind. There is a wealth of info out there that will cover much
more than anyone can give you here. Good luck

To easy really, IN Internet Explorer go to View/Internet
Options/connections and set it to connect on local lan. (Don't
worry, it does not interfere with you using the winmodem on your
winbox) then you should be able to do the following:
http://<whatever.name.you.gave.linuxbox
or
http://<IP address of the linuxbox>
at that point you should see the Apache logo screen.

yes, I have a mediaone connection. Lots of issues with them and
getting a connection at all, much less an IP. Took a while, but I didn't
have any problems with RH5.2 and the client it came with. I suggest you
try the ISC (www.isc.org) dhclient (comes with the dhcp daemon from
their site) instead. This may help. I assume you still have access
somewhere and that you can download this and cart it home (I believe
that it is less than a floppy big). The latest dhclient is as advanced
as dhcpcd. On the other hand, there are newer versions of dhcpcd that
can be downloaded and compiled (RH6 I believe uses a slightly older
build of the latest release). I had to do this with my older Slack
distro (3.6) to get that to work. But don't assume that it is your
computer and software. We had the flakiest connections for months. Only
in the last week or two has our connection been reliable.

Anyone have any good experience with wireless or telephone or
electrical wire networking? What I want to do is either add one of these
systems to my linux box (masquerading for the home ethernet network) or
if there is a system that would simply plug into an ethernet hub and
then do hub to hub wireless (or phone etc...) networking. I can't put
wires in the house (renting) and want to add connectivity upstairs
outside of my office. Hub to Hub would be the optimal solution. Thanks
to anyone that can offer a suggestion or advice.

Hello,
Reboot your system (press CTRL+ALT+DEL), at the "boot:" prompt type 'linux
single' (without quotes!), this will take you to the single user mode. You
should not be prompted for a password, and you should be able to change your
password using 'passwd' command.
Good luck!
