It looks like the modems connect OK. You'll need to add the pppd
debug option and find the log file for PPP link negotiation messages,
here it's /var/log/debug but in any case it should be one of the files
defined in /etc/syslog.conf . These can help you (and us) to find out
what's happening.

I don't have ISDN experience but if this is a TA using pppd then you might
make sure that pppd has the option "asyncmap 0" . Or (maybe)
 "asyncmap a0000".

Subject: Loadlin and Ne2k-PCI
Date: Mon, 26 Jul 1999 14:17:53 +0200

Hi,

I ran into a booting problem with my Reltec Ne2k-PCI card. If I'm executing
Loadlin on my Win98 to start Linux the kernel detects a wrong io-address and
irq-line.
Do I use a bootdisk instead, the kernel detects the PCI card correctly.
Next I made a linux.par file for Loadlin and tried to set PCI card to the
settings which Win98 uses ("ether=10,0e400,0,0,eth0"). But it seems to me
that I can't set pci-cards to specific irqs and io-addresses. Even patching
the kernel source with the parameters didn't work!
Unfortunatly the bootdisk solution isn't acceptable, cause we want to remote
boot the 2 os's.

Does anyone have an idea how to achive this?
Any suggestions appreciated

Thanks in advance
Jens

check out /etc/inetd.conf and look for the line which calls the pop daemon
(such as pop3d): verify it is not commented.

hi. i installedthe 2.2... kernel (SUSE dirtribution) now, because i need
linux for a file server for
sgi-irix machines. they need file locking over nfs for some resons. this
is supported by NFS3
only. so, the knfsd should support knfsd. but it don't seem so. i can't
mount nfs3 on the irix
computers and when i use make, i get answers as

At end of source: error(1513): Makedepend error: fcntl (Makedepend) : No
locks available

so, do i have to enable nfs3? did i do something wrong? any idea? or do
you know a
documentetion for the knfsd?

answers, please, also to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

You can just use the tcp wrappers package which is installed on your system.
This will restrict access to programs run from inetd. Just add a line to
your /etc/hosts.deny file that looks like this:
ALL: .domain.com
ALL: .com

Well Lee, if you would take as much time to think out your questions
as you do in typing and sending them, you might find that looking at a
site or two that tells you how to network, just might also show you
how to connect the basics.

You surely are not so stupid as to think the two are unrelated? nah,
I thought not.

Greg,

I had a similar, though slightly different, problem with my 3Com 3c507.
What I had to do was download from 3Com a DOS configuration app and with
it (after, of course, booting to a DOS prompt) configure the
ZeroWaitStates and Turbo settings the opposite of their default
settings. Only after I did this and rebooted to Linux did my 2.2.15
kernel "see" the NIC correctly. It's worth a try.

Guy Stalnaker

Subject: CHAP confusion...
Date: Mon, 26 Jul 1999 16:45:25 +0200

Hi,

I'm really getting lost on this one. So if anyone can help me out....
I am using ISDN for connecting to my ISP and my employers network (10.x
private range). My employers network uses M$-Chap for authentication and
my ISP plain Chap. I have

name <logonid1>
remotename *

in ioptions.ippp0, and

name <logonid2>
remotename *

in ioptions.ippp1. Chap secrets looks like

# User Server Secrets IP-address
<logonid1> * <Secret1> 10.0.0.0/8
<logonid2> * <Secret2> *

Logonid1 is for my employers network; logonid2 is for my ISP. If I want
to connect to my ISP (by specifying any address outside the 10.x range),
ippp1 dials out but uses the LOGON specs for my employers network!!! If
ippp0 is already up, then ippp1 picks the correct entry. If I kill
ippp0, same effect: ippp1 uses the correct entry. But else, it picks the
wrong user/password combination, resulting in a Chap authentication
failure and my system reconnecting every couple of seconds... :-(
I tried to enter the (remote) servername, but my employer has none (""
in the log), and my ISP's servername varies (I've seen NLUDS0GV01, 50
and 51). So that does not work (I tried NLUDS0GV?? and NLUDS0GV*, no
effect whatsoever)
Why does it select a user/password combination seemingly at random?
Any guru's out there with the golden tip?????
