There are three solutions, the first two must be done on each machine
that is running netscape.

1. net the user hold down the shift key when he clicks on the document.
This will force the save-as option.
2. have the .doc association removed from netscape
(Preferences/Navigator/Applications)
3. Upload the file ZIP'ed (or self-extracting ZIPs)

I want to build up a firewall on a LAN to protect it from the outside,
but the following services should be avaible:
www, ping, telnet, nntp, pop3, smtp, timeserverprotocol, namesserver

I suggest you tell Netgear Support to read the information about this
adapter on their website, because there it clearly states that Linux
drivers are supported ! In any case a driver shouldn't hose the EEPROM,
it should just allow the OS to talk to the card ! The only problem is
that when this card costs $20 (BuyComp) is it worth the fight ? I have
always found Netgear Support most helpful, so I hope they will come
through for you.

There is some info about which chipset needs which driver in
Ethernet-Howto. Also a quick search on http://www.searchlinux.com/ or

It appears your system is "autoconfiguring" your hostname based
on the ip address your ISP is giving you. Take a look at your
ADSL dialup routine... I suppect it has an option simialar to
"Autoconfigure host-name from ip"   -Scotch

Probably you have no IPX support compiled in kernel. So, you
need recompile it with IPX networking (CONFIG_IPX) support.
Than check if you have ipx_interface and ipx_configure
utilites. If no, get it from
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/ncpfs  than add following to
startup at boot: ipx_interface add -p eth0 802.2 0x11 where
802.2 is IPX frame type in your network and 0x11 is your IPX
network number. And it can be good to add line ipx_configure --
auto_interface=on --auto_primary=on Now, check if you can
print using nprint  Good luck.

I found lots of people with my problem by searching DejaNews but no
solutions that have worked for me.

Ping times are great to my new Red Hat 5.2 box. Telnet and FTP to the box is
unbelievably slow (several minutes). One exception to this is if I telnet
from the console to 127.0.0.1 or to the nics address the login is
instantaneous.

When I telnet of FTP from other machines I always specify the Linux nics
address.

Thanks in advance...

Linux needs some tweaking to run two ethernet cards at once.
More details are in the Ethernet HOWTO, but the basics are that
you need to edit your /etc/modules.conf file to support the
multiple ethernet adapters. This HOWTO is available in many
places, but one favorite is:
http://metalab.unc.edu/LDP/HOWTO/Ethernet-HOWTO.html  Sorry,
but I can't tell you more without more detailed information on
your hardware, in particular the, make, model, interrupts, and
memory allocations for both ethernet cards.

Subject: Need help with Linux PPTP Client
Date: Mon, 09 Aug 1999 22:17:36 GMT

I am trying to get the Linux-pptp client working with my companies VPN
box. The VPN box has a proprietary Windoze client, and the ability to
do generic PPTP. My setup which currently works is this:

Win NT (proprietary client) -> Linux Firewall -> Cable Modem ->
Internet -> Company VPN box -> Company network.

I am trying to get the Linux Firewall to connect using PPTP to the
Company VPN box, which now has PPTP turned on. I could find very little
documentation on the setup, so I'm very confused. The PPTP is using
CHAP authentication and MS-CHAP. Here is what I'm using to try to
connect to the VPN box, and what I'm getting back.

pptp (VPN Box ipaddress) user (my username)

(unknown)[984]: log[pptp_dispatch_ctrl_packet:pptp_ctrl.c:531]: Client
connection established.
(unknown)[984]: log[pptp_dispatch_ctrl_packet:pptp_ctrl.c:637]: Outgoing
call established.

(unknown)[984]: log[pptp_dispatch_ctrl_packet:pptp_ctrl.c:671]: Call
closed (NTFY) (call id 0)
(unknown)[984]: log[pptp_conn_close:pptp_ctrl.c:275]: Closing PPTP
connection

Am I missing something in the command, or should I be putting something
in the CHAP-SECRETS file?

Thanks,

The stat() is a library function (usually), a wrapper around the `stat' system
call of most Linux kernels.

Are you sure that your C library is working fine, of that your options to
Apache compilation are not using the `wrong' version of libc.so ?

I don't really know much about recent glibc development (being a libc5 fan for
almost 4 years now), but have you tried compiling simple programs, like:

        #include <unistd.h>
        #include <sys/stat.h>

        int main (void)
        {
                struct stbuf sbuf;
                if (stat(argv[0], &sbuf) < 0)
                        return 1;
                else
                        return 0;
        }

Try and compile this one and see what happens... Does it give the same error?
If it does compile, then you probably got a problem with your glibc and it's
installation. Do other programs compile correctly? Only Apache seems to fail
in this way?

The firewall-HOWTO is quiet old (11/96) maybe there is a better product
as TIS.

I would be very happy about any hints.
