Enables the "passive" option in the LCP. With this
option, pppd will attempt to initiate a connection;
if no reply is received from the peer, pppd will
then just wait passively for a valid LCP packet
from the peer (instead of exiting, as it does with-
out this option).
silent With this option, pppd will not transmit LCP pack-
ets to initiate a connection until a valid LCP
packet is received from the peer (as for the `pas-
sive' option with old versions of pppd).

Subject: 3CCFEM556B PCMCIA Config
Date: Fri, 27 Aug 1999 01:11:42 -0600
I'm new to Linux ... please be gentle ...
Running RH Mandrake 6 with a multi-function 3COM 3CCFEM556B PCMCIA card.
After reviewing the NET-3, PCMCIA, and ETHERNET how-to - it appears that
this card is supported via the 2c574_cs module.
I am able to successfully make a ppp connection via kppp without incident -
however - the NIC side will not work. If connected to my 10 mbit LAN at
home - I get a solid green light. At work on my 100 mbit LAN - a blinking
green. Either way - I can't even ping. ifconfig, linuxconf and netcfg all
report activated.
Mandrake's help has been unhelpful.
Is anyone else using this card?
What am I doing wrong?
Any and all help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

Subject: Help with Informix on Linux through Linux firewall to NT running IIS4!
Date: Fri, 27 Aug 1999 03:38:34 -0400
Hello All,
I have a Linux box running Informix behind a Linux IPChains firewall which
runs on a box with two NICS. The webserver running NT is connected directly
to our router as is the DMZ side of the Linux IPChains firewall box. Our
internal machines (including the Informix server) all have a 198. private
address and masquerade through IPChains.
What I need help with is getting data from Informix, through the firewall,
and to the webserver so dynamic content can be fed as needed. I also need to
go the other way so when someone registers or makes a purchase on our site,
their data goes back through to the Informix box.
Help would be much appreciated.

this is bassicly the same message as the other ftping one that has
gotten some response, but a little different...
i have a linux box and a windows box, i can ping back and forth and
apache works like a peach, but i cannot telnet or ftp from the windows
box into the linux box, or vise versa. i checked the '/etc/inetd.conf'
file, and its set to enable ftp'ing and telneting. when i telnet from
windows to linux it just times out and when i telnet from linux to
windows it says 'connection refused' so just so were all on the same
page at this point, i get no longin promt what so ever on either telnet
or ftp connection, it is either denyed or times out.
extreamly greatful for the help
