You can't run a graphical program through a telnet session. Try using
Xwrapper --query sunhostname
This will start an Xsession from the Sun machine on your local display.
Also, if you are already running an Xsession on your linux box, you can do
Xwrapper --query sunhostname :1 (or :2 - :5)
This will start that session on server 1, which is usually accessible by
Alt+Ctrl+F8

Subject: why ftp and telnet is very slowly ?
Date: Sat, 04 Sep 1999 10:00:15 +0800
I have two networks(200.200.200.* and 200.200.199.*).they connect
through a pc(has two NE2000 card,adder 200.200.200.112 and 200.200.
200.1,OS is Win95,Route Software is Winroute).
In net 200.200.200.*** there is a Linux Server
(net adder 200.200.200.1, os is turbolinux ,
ftp server is wu-ftpd-2.4.2-1.
/etc/inetd.conf have
line : ftp stream tcp ....... /usr/sbin/tcpd in.ftpd -l -a ).
TO my surprise, when a pc in net(200.200.200.*) do
ftp 200.200.200.1 ,the response is very quickly(no more than
10 second),but when a pc in net(200.200.199.*) do
ftp 200.200.200.1 ,the response is very very SLOWLY(more than
3 minutes). of course, the two ftp is success.
Why this ?
As same as telnet.
But http is not that .
the pc(in 200.200.199.*) do http://200.200.200.1 is quickly too.
200.200.200.1's www server is apache-1.3.6-1.

Subject: demand dialing PPPD always dials upon start
Date: Sat, 04 Sep 1999 00:31:07 GMT
Hi, all,
I have setup RH6.0 PPPD with demand dialing. It works out fine.
It will automatically connect when there is network traffic and
disconnect upon inactivity.
But everytime when I start pppd, even if there is no traffic, pppd
will sleep for about one minute and then start dialing. After the
specified period of inactivity, it will disconnect. After that,
everything is normal again.
This is annoying since I plan to put pppd in the system startup script.
Anyone experience similiar problem ?
I am pretty sure I don't have software which tries to connect when
it happens.

Any time you have problems with the tulip driver, it's worthwhile to try
the de4x5 driver.

I'm not totaly sure I understand?
Are you trying to *not* get a new IP from your ISP?
If the answer is yes. AFAIK it can't be done. It's controlled by your
ISP.
If the answer is no. I have no idea I haven't setup dhcp yet.

hi,
do you have a combo card? (rj-45 and thin coax). i do.
the 3c509 driver is incapable of determining which media to use. you have
to use to dos "setup" provided by 3com to set it in hardware (make it
anything but "auto").
also, use the setup program to turn off pnp. while you're at it, change
the irq/io to suit your needs (the driver's defaults appear to be 300/10,
and that works fine for me with no further configuration).

The typical way of doing this is to have your Linux box connect to the
internet then let your Win9x box(es) access the internet through the
Linux system by a technique called "Masquerading". To get started, first
read the RedHat 6.0 Installation guide from front to back -- it contains
a lot of information about setting up various services on your system.
Next, read the following documents:
/usr/doc/HOWTO/NET-3-HOWTO
/usr/doc/HOWTO/PPP-HOWTO
/usr/doc/HOTTO/mini/IP_Masquerade
When you run into problems, post again --

Sorry for the piggyback but I missed the original post...
Take a look at the crossover cable. 10Base-T uses pins
123&6 so a crossover for 10Mbs only needs to cross those
wires.. I'm not positive (haven't seen the specs) but I
would ass-u-me that 100Base-T would need a couple extra
wires for the signaling. Again - just a guess. Now I'm
gonna go look up the specs to find out for sure.
