I got 2 Lin and 1 win98.
The problem is when reciving to the win98 trancfer speed is 6-12kb/s.
But sending from is ok like 800kb/s.
Trancfering between the 2 Lin boxes is fine.
All NIC's are 10mbit RJ45 and put to half duplex and there is a 10mbit hub .
I've been trying all i can think of. Any suggestions whould be appreciated.
Some win settings i've might overlooked ?
Thx in advance.

If you are able to ping local loopback (127.0.0.1), I would verify that
you are using a crossover cable to the cable modem. (If directly connected
to nic in linux box)

I used to pppd to earthlink but now I use Kppp ( much easier to use and
setup ) anyway the script I use is:
/ START Script
TIMEOUT 5
"" AT&F1*V2=1 /* For USRobotics ISDN modem */
OK ATDT9843610 /* Phone */
ABORT "NO CARRIER"
ABORT BUSY
ABORT "NO DIALTONE"
ABORT WAITING
TIMEOUT 45
CONNECT ""
TIMEOUT 5
Login: ELN/yourusername
Password: yourpassword
/ END Script
I named this script ELN and placed it in /etc/ppp. Add the DSN numbers
to /etc/resolv.conf ( 207.217.126.81 and 207.217.120.83 ) then pppd
connect 'chat -v -f /etc/ppp/ELN' -detach defaultroute /dev/ttyS2 115200
Not very elegant but it works for me.

Subject: Can't get Cheops to work Under RH6.0
Date: Sat, 11 Sep 1999 09:43:38 -0400
I have tried Cheops on 3 different Systems in 3 (very) different Network
environment's
and have had little success. The Readme states that "/usr/include/ucd-snmp" is required
and mentions RH 5.2 . I am running RH6.0, Upgraded to 2.2.10. (although one of the
systems
I tried was vanilla RH6.0 2.2.5-15). I do have ucd-snmp-3.6.1.4 installed on my
system,
but it appears that it no longer lives in /usr/include.
I've tried every Cheops option available. No improvement.
What happens is that if I let it Add my Network at startup it (usually although not
always)
discovers the host it's running on OK but will discover nothing else. If I don't let
Cheops
configure my Local Network, I can supply it with a hostname of any system on the
network and it will (usually) discover it, but then will not discover any subsequent
additions
to the list, including the host Cheops is running on. In all these situations all
other indications
(netstat -i, -rn, pings to hosts & broadcast, traceroute) are that the Network and my
connection to it are functioning normally.
Is any one out there using Cheops successfully under RH6.0 ?
If so, any thoughts as to what I could be doing wrong?
Thanks,
Bill Bannan

You should look at the mini-howto on ip masqueradeing:
http://linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/IP-Masquerade-3.html
1 make sure you enabled all the right kernel stuff when you recompiled it
2 turn on ip forwarding (you said you have it on so I guess your ready for
the next step)
3 configure the ip forwarding policies and that depends on the kernel you
are using. on 2.0.x you would use ipfwadm while on 2.2.x you have to use
the new ipchains command.
things to look out for is make sure you don't have some other firewall
running that would screw up your ip forwarding stuff. When I first set up
my gateway at home the driver for the cablemodem came with a firewall that
kind of stopped anything and everything from going out to the web so I
just replaced it with the two lines (ipfwadm ...(kernel 2.0.x)) and
whenever we connect now the driver calls the firewall conf file and
automatically sets up the ip forwarding policies I set up.
Other things you might want to look at are the man for ppp or diald to set
up dial on demand and stuff
Good luck

A quick glance into the corresponding de.* groups would have
told you that it does not work. There is _some_ support for 2
passive or semi-passive card models now, but the AVM models (as well as
all other el-cheapo passive ISDN cards) do not allow this
(and it is doubtable that there will ever be a working implementation
for Linux). Either use a 14.400 modem or buy an active card.

Lots of possibilities here, but the one I would suggest (since I
recently dealt with the exact same error message myself) is an IRQ
conflict. Make sure nothing else in your system is using the same IRQ
that you've configured the ne2k to use.

I had exactly the same problem, same card, but with Mandrake. My
understanding of the situation is that this card will not work with some
versions of Linux using plug and play. Suggest that you disable the plug and
using the ether disk that came with the card. There will be no poblems with
windoze as long as you set the same settings up for the card. Hope that
helps, as I say it works fine for me, Now!

I know the log function in ipchains but now I have
two questions to you out there:
1. Is it possible to create a log file, that is more
detailed than the log in /var/log/messages ?
2. And is it possible to create a seperately file with the log?
I'm using ipchains 1.3.9 on an 2.2.10 Kernel (SuSE 6.2)

Redhat 6.0 (and Mandrake I believe) use PUMP to dhcp. I couldn't make it
work either so I replaced it with the dhcpcd version included on the Redhat
6.0 cd. I've also heard that there is an update on Redhat's site to fix
PUMP, because it was having problems with cablemodems. I haven't tried it
since I already have dhcpcd working. Try updating PUMP, and if that doesn't
work then try dhcpcd. Hope that helps.
