You may be right, Richard. Or I may be. The problem is that the excerpt from
the logfile is unclear. As posted, it read:
>host_access: Format error in host access file
>Mar 18 20:23:49 linux1 ftpd[1281]: rhost_ok: sethacc
>failed
>Mar 18 20:23:49 linux1 ftpd[1281]: FTP LOGIN REFUSED
>(name in /etc/ftphosts) FROM win2000.home.com

You commented on the first line, I on the third line. The unclarity is that
the first line is not associated with a process ID or a timestamp (that is,
it is really only a partial line), making it hard to interpret. The last
line seems to say that ftpd found a match in ftphosts and thus rejected the
connection.
But I think you are correct that it is unclear *which* problem the original
poster is having.
