I am trying to set my Linux box up to use my Handspring Visor with it, and
reading through the How-to, it says to set up a link from /dev/ttyS01 (or
whatever serial port the cradle is attached to) to /dev/pilot. Before doing
this though, I check to see if /dev/pilot exists. It does, and it is not a
link. It is a device file with the same major and minor numbers as
/dev/ttyS01.

My question: Are both of these device files functionally identical since
they share the same major and minor numbers?

Cheers,
Sean
