Riley, Thanks for the informative reply. Since I have not recompiled my kernal since the original installation, I gather there's a possible conflict between my graphic card's (PNY Verto GeForce3 Ti 500) driver and the kernel as compiled during installation of Red Hat 7.2.
The graphics card is too new to expect a driver upgrade, but I suppose that would be an option, and I wonder if the graphics driver had RH7.3 in mind, and if an upgrade from RH7.2 could make any difference. I can't keep on hanging, and so must prepare myself for a possible future move to an alternative video card :-(. Any recommandations for cards that are both advanced, and yet run well under Linux?
