The Debian database lists two OCR packages:
gocr (actually, about seven related packages), which from the
description sounds
like an early-stage, limited project
clara, which is described as "intended for large scale digitalization
projects. It features a powerful GUI and a web interface
for cooperative digitalization of books."
No personal experience with either, though. In any case, "comparable" is in
the eye of the beholder, at least past some threshhold of performance.
If you are a Debian user, the usual apt-* commands will get you the
relevant packages. If you use a different distro, I suppose you either look
in its database or track down the originating sites in the usual ways.
