I have a box that dual boots linux (RH7.3) and Win98. For linux I'm using IPTables (set up for me by one of my coworkers who is a sysadmin) firewall and for Win98 I'm using Sygate's firewall. On linux, I use the PureFTP server and on Win98 I use Cerebrus FTP server. I'm connected to the 'net via Cable. Now, whenever I'm booted to Win98 and I transfer files to that box via FTP, I get speeds of anywhere between 90 to 120 kbps. However, whenever I'm booted to linux and transfer files to the box, I get speeds of anywhere between 20 to 60 kbps. What might be causing that disparity? What might I be able to do, where might I check to try to bring the speed up while in linux?
