That part I've gotten pretty well ironed out.  I have at least one
internal modem and 3 external modems - all confirmed to work with
Linux - to choose from.  In some experimental fiddling with Freesco
just last night the external modem I was trying was detected just fine.

Thanks for that tip.  I'll keep an eye open for that.  For now, I've just
been looking over the older "Linux Dialin Server Setup Guide" and the
more up-to-date and very well written "Modem How-To."
