James just made me attent to some strange condition - obviously my
first posting of the question arrived at the list; but I never saw it
there - and so it went with my repeated posting ! Thus please pardon
the repetition, I have to look at what's happening here. In fact, I
didn't receive _any_ post from this list yesterday and to-day. <???>

James forwarded (part of) an answer from Ray:

Indeed I had an idea about this - being a tool to copy *nix-LF-only-
formatted files to DOS filesystems, e.g. to a DOS-formatted floppy
(there are various editions of it, including my own for use in DOS, <bg>.)

But using that would leave the (otherwise completely useless) copy
cluttering the disk (not to speak of that it would mean a rather
wasteful intermediary disk writing/reading procedure.)

Couldn't there be a more elegant way ?
