I recommend getting the cheapbytes version first.
Why risk $50?

I used to have Caldera.  I went:
         Slackware->Caldera(Full base, not the lite version)->RedHat

Caldera and RedHat are similar in many ways.
Caldera, is in fact, a RedHat derivative.
However, while Caldera markets to Small businesses with "Stability",
RedHat tends to be more "Bleeding Edge".

Check the RPM repository at http://rufus.w3.org under
the RedHat 5.1 distribution. You can see exactly what RPMs are in the
distribution.
