Problems with EtherNet

I have Caldera Installed on a 486 DX/2 50 with 600mb hd total.  I also
have a win98 box.  If I ping the 98 box repeatedly I get about 16-20%
packet loss.  If I ping the Linux box I get upwards of 40% loss.  Anyone
have any idea whats going on??
