Actually, piping the output was not the answer, at least not technically.  What
I ended up doing was redirecting the output.

a2ps testfax | testfax.ps  gave me an error, because the pipe expects to pass to
an executable (if I am understanding correctly what went on here).  testfax.ps
is not an executable.

a2ps testfax > testfax.ps  worked.
