I have a Mac PowerPC 8500/120 that I have networked with a Linux box (S.u.S.E.
Linux 5.2) and an old Mac IIci running NetBSD/mac68k. Right now I have them
networked on a standard TCP/IP network, and I communicate between the Mac and
the other two machines using telnet and MI/X. It is possible, however, to set
the Mac and Linux machine up in an AppleTalk-like networking scheme using
Netatalk. There was an article on this in the January '98 issue of the Linux
Journal, which describes how to set it up. I have not used it yet, but I am
thinking of trying it soon myself. Particularly if it is possible to print from
the Linux box to a printer attached to the Mac.

There is also an option in the kernel source to compile with AppleTalk
compatability. Haven't tried it yet either. Soon.

If you can't find a copy of Linux Journal, drop me an email. We'll work
something out.
