Hi,

I use Slackware but what I do for testing is:

Xinit
startkde

Then it starts up. What you do after testing is make a link from your
xinit-file to 
the startkde-file
Use the find utility in kde to find your xinit, open it and you'll see how
it's setup
and with the properties you'll see where it's linkt to.
