I think what happens is that the "^M" (which means "LF/CR") is sent
after each "AT" command, and that the new modem reacts differently on
these than the old one did.

So, you can try inserting a ";" at the end of the command, which should
prevent the "^M" from being sent. Maybe this helps (and if not, don't
flame me, i'm a "synner", too, 'cause of... "WinModem", you know what I
mean...)

Another "guess" : Do you get the "OK" expected, or is the answer "Chat
now working" instead ??? <include standard disclaimer here>
