Pine is capable of checking your for your mail on an IMAP or POP3 server,
but if you get your mail from a POP3 server, you're best off to find
a separate utility to do the actual retreival of the mail.

On my machine, Pine doesn't know anything about my ISP. Sendmail handles
the sending of messages, and fetchpop handles fetching it for me. Pine is
only interested in the mail file in /var/spool/mail.

When mail is appended to your mail file, it should notify you.
