Try joe and xspread. This are both simple but work just fine for most
uses. Joe is a Word Star word processor that has gobs of setup for almost
any use. I use it for professional code writing and for letters and to
write the plain .txt part of LaTeX type setter.

Xspread is a simple spreadsheet that is adequate to plot stocks and
birthdays and such.
