and here's the error, you appear not to have GNU C compiler installed
(or it's not in a place listed by $PATH). Can you _compile_ any other
things?
try typing:
gcc --version
if you get a 'command not found' error GCC isn't there (try using 'locate' or
find to search for it, if they can't find it then you'll need to install it)
