Parallel Port Types

When I load the module for my Parallel-Port Zip drive,
it says it looks for a port of type "EPP".  Failing
that, it tries type "SPP", finds it and continues on.

My Question:
        What are the differences between these Parallel
Port Types?:  SPP (a.k.a. BPP), EPP, and ECP (I think that's
the other type)   Which offers the best performance
for a Parallel-Zip-Drive?
