Well actualy you cant change it in rc.M, what you may have done is changed
echo "darkstar.frop.org" > /etc/HOSTNAME
to your hostname, this will only work if you have no file called
/etc/HOSTNAME, the if statement 'if [ ! -r /etc/HOSTNAME ];' only echo's
darkstar.frop.org when the file /etc/HOSTNAME does not exsist.
You need to edit /etc/HOSTNAME.
The following statement in rc.M cuts any fields of the hostname after the
first dot. So the standard prompt you see on your screen would have 'Sony#'
dirived from Sony.Lloyd.org

You wont find it because its not there in redhat, if your machine is on a
local network or LAN, edit
/etc/sysconfig/network
HOSTNAME=
and edit /etc/HOSTNAME to reflect your hostname.
