No you can use 2.0.34.

Just read /usr/src/linux/README  "Carefully" digest what is written there
within and then, make a new kernel, do not forget to install the new kernel,
and rerun LILO, that is also explaned in the README.
Another place to look for more spesific config defenitions is;
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/Configure.help This file is used when you hit
the "?" key in "make config" or menuconfig. The full kernel howto is;
/usr/doc/HOWTO/Kernel.HOWTO.gz it could be in /usr/doc/faq/howto, the
directory structure is different in some Distributions.

Judgeing by you questions up till now, i think you will have more questions
about making a kernel, if so PLEASE read all the documentaion first as in my
experiance "ALL questions" are answerd there.
