E-mail help

I need some help on my e-mail on my Slack3.5 system. I just installed it 
and want to use Pine for e-mail. I have already been through the setup for 
my domain names and such and can send e-mail with no problem. Now the 
problem I have is how do i check e-mail with it and how do I set it up to 
notify me when I have new mail?
