Hello!

On the cover of the October 98 PC PLUS magazine there is/was a free
distribution of S.u.S.E Linux.
I have installed this distribution and as far as I can tell the
command line environment is set up fine (although the filesystem
seems somewhat different from other distributions, e.g the startup
files don't appear to be in the 'usual' place).
After compiling some test programs, checking my mail etc, I thought
it might be nice to have a GUI for web developing etc so I ran a
utility called XF86Setup and (after several attempts) managed to get
everything working. On completion I was asked if I wanted to create
an 'X link' to which I replied yes. The program exited, I reran the
program and reloaded my new configuration and it all worked fine.

The thing is I'm not sure what to do now.
If I type startx (as instructed in the manual) I get the following
error message.
"There is no link /var/X11R6/bin/X to /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_xxxx which
is the binary of the installed server"(in my case XF86_VGA16).
When I look in /usr/X11R6/bin there is a link called
X -> /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_VGA16.
If I try to create a link thus
ln /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_VGA16 /var/X11R6/bin/X I get an error message
about 'cross linking'.
I'm confused, has anyone got this distribution installed and working
WRT a GUI ?

I installed the following filesystem
/
/usr
/dosc
and a 96MB swap partition

Cheers
