What you're experiencing is Samba and probably Apache both
going through an identity crisis because they don't know
what the server's name is supposed to be. You can resolve this
by typing "linux single" at the lilo prompt (without quotes)
which will boot the box without starting any services. When it
comes up, there'll be no login and you'll be root. Then you can either
fix them (recommended) or disable them (you won't learn much doing
this). These two will eventually time out on boot, by the way, but
the default timeouts in Red Hat are very long.
