nope. you have to unmount your partitions before changing them because linux
uses disk caches (try deleting a file off a floppy, it happens instantly... then
type 'sync' and listen to the drive) and unmounting makes sure they are flushed.
If you just took the disk out you could loose data (the cache holds data going
onto the drive as well as coming off). It's not as bad on a cd because you're
only reading data, but just to be safe, linux locks the eject button.
