Ok heres the problem. I am using SuSE 5.2 with an Creative Labs AWE64 value and the oss sound trial software so that I can get sound going in Linux. The install seems to run flawlessly and autodetects the card perfect. With all the irq and dma info. When I try to cat a small file it works but if try to play a larger file either wav or mp3 or even .au it makes some scratching sounds and then goes dead. I read the README and tried to follow all it said. I must be missing something. Anyone have any info?? I know that the next best option is to compile the kernel for sound.
