I have taken over administration of a Linux box and have a few questions
I'm hoping someone can help me with:
There are many users in the current home directory. It would be nice to
move them into dirctories that fit the catagories they fit in (basically
different classes). If I move users into directories within the home
directory, will anything be screwed-up? Will they still be able to log on,
retrieve mail, and have their Web pages work? Should all the users be in
one big directory instead?
What file permissions are normally set for users? When I add user I get:
drwxrwxr-x
The machine I inheritted must be set up to give these permissions. Should I
have something more like:
drwxr-xr-x, or
drwx--x--x ?
There probably is a file that I can edit that acts as a template for
setting file permissions when doing "adduser".
Thanks for help anyone can give me in this "setting up accounts" area. I
really appreciate the spirit of cooperation and support that exists in the
Linux community, and the time people give to answer questions from clueless
people like me!
