Checkout "CPU Review" and "Tom's Hardware Guide".
I forgot the URL's, but a quick search should do it.
They benchmark CPU's in various environments.
Tom's uses Win95/98 and Quake(II).
CPU Review uses Linux Kernel compile times.

Thanks to the (more or less) new, Super Socket 7 boards,
with 100Mhz front-size bus, a K6-2 can get performance
within 1% of a PII with the same Mhz rating. and K6's
tend to be alot cheeper than PII's.
