Well, I certainly leanred much from this discussion. I haven't had a chance
to use these suggestions, but I think I can get to what I was looking for.
I wasn't really aware of /etc/syslog.conf and will look at it. The fact
that there are messages from the kernel and from other processes, makes
things more clear for me as well.
