I think the main part of the debate is centered around the fact that KDE's
core is not copyrighted under the GNU public licence and therefor dosan't
have to be released with the rest of the source. This goes against the
'spirit' of Linux being a compleatly 'open source' operating system. Linux
pureists are against this. GNOME on the otherhand is being developed by
RedHat and will comply with the GNU public licence. The purests are standing
behind GNOME while otheres are backing KDE and argueing the whole way. Some
say this will hurt the push to get Linux more widely used, others say this
is exaclty the way the whole Linux project works to keep competion going.
Either way it'll be fun watching what happens. Myself I'm leaning toward
GNOME, mostly because the guy that developed Enlightenment is on the design
team at RHAD Labs (Wouldn't that be a kick a$$ place to work?). I"ve read
some very good articals about all this, however I can't remember the web
site address's...I think I found them off the RedHat homepage.
