SHM makes me think of Shared Memory used for Inter Process Communication
(IPC)
you compiled your kernel with IPC enabled didn't you ?

I've been trying to install KDE on Slackware 3.5 but have been
getting the following error: WARNING: Could not attach SHM. Any idea on
the
cause of this. Also, is there a KDE FAQ out there yet?
