I'm assuming that you are familiar with the older versions of AfterStep and is
able to configure those.
The newer versions of AfterStep has a completely different system for
configuration. The ".steprc" file was dropped and the
"GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/" directory was added.
The modules are configured using the files of the same name in that directory.
The popup/start menu is configured by adding files into the
"GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/start/" directory. Each file should contain the
command to run the desired program. The file name will be used as the entry
name that appear on the popup/start menu. The command that is in the file must
be followed by a newline. The "GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/startmenu" file will be
created by Afterstep based on the files in the
"GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/start" directory and must not be modified.
The order by which the entries appear on the popup/start menu depends on the
order that the corresponding files appear on the disk. You can view this by
running "ls -U1" in the appropriate directory. As far as I know, this would
mean that there is no practical method to modify the order.
Look and feel configuration are made the
"GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/desktop/looks" directory and the
"GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/desktop/feels" directory respectively. Create a new
file or modify an existing file to fit your preference. Start up Afterstep and
select your configuration from the popup/start menu. Your selection will be
remembered and used the next time you start AfterStep. Don't modify anything in
the "GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/desktop/desks" directory, it will be overwritten
the next time you switch desktop theme.
The rest of the files should be quite easy to figure out.
