what distrib are you using ??
with redhat you can do:
ifdown ppp0
whith EVERY linux you can just kill the pppd process ...

I have the same problem and hope =we= get an answer. I have to turn
off my external modem to hang up; sure glad I don't have an internal.
I'm posting this me-too message because you didn't include a Subject
with yours. I don't know about you, but I'm getting so many Linux
messages that I have to pick and choose by Subject.
