There is no safe way to resize.
A way round the problem would be to move all excisting files to another
partition and name the directory /home1 or something to that effect and
create a symbolic link for each account in /home pointing to the new
directory, this way you wont have problems when adding new accounts,
remember "adduser" uses /home to add new accounts.

You could of course move the whole directory to a new location and make one
symlink, but you would be left with the /home directory empty and a lot of
space just sitting there doing nothing.
