I believe that is large enough that some systems would have trouble. As
I remember the HD in my Linux box is a 1.2 Gb drive - I had to play with
the BIOS settings for a while before I got a working setting. Same
story with a friend of mine - I believe the drive he used was also ~
1Gb. Try taking a look at the BIOS settings on that 486 - chances are
that there is an LBA option, and it's currently set to somehing else -
probably "Normal", whatever that's supposed to mean.
